1. Classics Graduate School Seminar
Are you considering a life dedicated to antiquity? Are you not convinced that opportunities exist in the field of Classics beyond your B.A.? Come and join CLASSU and Professor Keith (Classics Chair) and Professor Lytle (Classics Undergraduate Co-ordinator) next Friday, 7 October from 3:00-4:00 in LI 220 as they help guide you through the process to continue your Classical studies. This event is aimed at those who are further along in their undergraduate careers, but would be a good chance for lower-year students to consider their future possibilities too!
2. Plebeian Editorial Board Opportunities!
Do you like writing and editing? Would you like to put your skills to the test for Volume III of Plebeian: Journal of the Classics Students’ Union? We are hiring one Deputy Editor (deadline next Thursday, 6 October, 4:00 p.m.) and seven Associate Editors (deadline Thursday, 17 November). These are due in to classu.plebeian@gmail.com A call for papers will be forthcoming in November. Check out the Plebeian page for more information!
3. CLASSU Peer Mentorship
It’s not too late to apply to the peer mentorship programme! The deadline is Thursday, 6 October at 4:00p.m. We will be hosting the first meet and greet during the second week of October. The Senate Mentorship committee will meet next week to pair everyone up. If you are interested in signing up either as a mentor or a mentee, please click here for more information and the link to the form! There will be a few more meet-ups through the year, where we will have free food for all mentors and mentees! It’s a great way to meet new people and help or gain guidance from a peer!
4. “Subsequent Medeas” Lecture
This has been recommended by Professor Keith as well as the Northrop Frye Centre itself! They’ve got a pretty sweet poster to check out too! The Northrop Frye Centre proudly announces The Northrop Frye Centre Lecture, “Subsequent Medeas: Tragedy’s Next Audiences” by Professor C.W. Marshall (UBC). Join the Centre (and many Classics Professors) in Alumni Hall, Old Vic (VC 112), Thursday, 6 October at 4:30pm as we explore the re-performance of fifth-century tragedy in the fourth-century BCE. 5. CLASSU Senate Election Results
Thank you to everyone who came out and ran for the Senate. It was great to see so many candidates and voters last Thursday! Your 2016-2017 Senate is as follows:

7. New Department of Classics Website
The Department has revamped their website to join us in the 2010s! We’re working closely with their new Webmaster, so please share your thoughts on accessibility and usefulness for undergraduates with us! The new address is classics.utoronto.ca!
8. Scholarship Opportunity: Harry C. Maynard Scholarships
The deadline for the Harry C. Maynard scholarships for Classics students is coming up soon – applications are due Saturday, 15 October 2016, and more information is available in the attached flyer and application. There are scholarships for studies here and abroad!
9.Undergraduate Conference Opportunity: University of Tennessee
Got a Classics-related paper you are especially proud of? The University of Tennessee is holding their sixth annual Undergraduate Classics Conference on February 25, 2017, and has just put out their call for papers. 10. ASSU Opportunity: Go Global
The Arts & Science Students’ Union is holding two events for Go Global week at Sid Smith, October 4th from 11-2 and October 5th from 12-4, regarding international experiences that work with all budgets and time frames. For more information, go to uoft.me/goglobal.
11. ASSU Opportunity: Project Universal Minds
ASSU is also looking for volunteer tutors in Math, Science, and English to be matched up with high school students as part of Project Universal Minds. This experience is also Co-Curricular Record-recognized – check out their website to learn more.
12.Other Upcoming CLASSU Events
CLASSU is hosting its first tea social! Come and join us at the TeaSSU study space on Thursday, 13 October from 10:00-3:00 in the CLASSU Lounge (LI 009). There will be an excellently curated selection of teas made from Lillian Massey’s finest tap water. Join us again just over a week on Friday, 21 October later for our first Board Games Day in the Lounge (LI 009) from 12:00-5:00. There will snacks, games, and friendly rivalry.
